The author has discussed the mental health research barriers in low
income countries indicated by the scarcity in the number of the articles
published in peer review journals from these countries. Another reason
stated was the language barrier. There is also problem in translating
the tools used by developed countries to measure the mental disorders in
third world countries due to different cultural values. Author also
criticized the role played by the
Pakistan Medical and Research Council (PMRC) which leads to delayed
start in the mental health research. WHO has taken certain measures to
improve this area but it require the basic research infrastructure,
research friendly environment and removal of the publication bias by the
top medical journals. Access the full text in PDF file.
